Wholesum expands squash, tomatoes
Amado, Ariz.-based Wholesum is increasing its volume of organic butternut, acorn and spaghetti hard squashes this season, said Joanna Jaramillo, marketing specialist.
The company also is expanding its supply of organic Valentino high-flavor cocktail tomatoes-on-the-vine and has introduced new packaging for its regular tomatoes-on-the-vine.
“We’re now doing a 1-pound top-seal pack,” she said.
The new package offers convenience and is “merchandising friendly,” because it can be stacked or propped up on the produce shelf, she said.
It also can be scanned, offers good product visibility and maintains the integrity of the product, which addresses food safety concerns during COVID-19, she said.
Wholesum also is highlighting its flavor lineup that was introduced about a year ago.
“It’s a high-flavor specialty line of snacking tomatoes,” Jaramillo said.
The lineup includes a mixed medley, high-flavor grape tomatoes and high-flavor cherry tomatoes on-the-vine.
Each dual-tone pack has two vines — two reds or a red and yellow or red and orange.
The flavor lineup and Valentino cocktail tomatoes are Fair Trade Certified.
All Wholesum Family Farms’ tomatoes are greenhouse-grown and available year-round, she said.
