ORLANDO, Fla. - Dave’s Specialty Imports, Miami, Fla., is offering a jumbo blueberry pack and expanded organic strawberry volume from Mexico, says Leslie Simmons, vice president of Dave’s Specialty Imports, Miami, Fla.

“We have an organic strawberries program out of Mexico that we’ve just started with significant volume,” she says, noting the program has a big increase in volume compared with a year ago. The import season for Mexican organic strawberries has begun and will overlap slightly with the start of the Florida strawberry season in January.

The company also is offering a new jumbo blueberry pack, with 20 mm sized berries.

Sourcing from a couple of countries, the jumbo pack is precisely packed with optical sorters to ensure consistent berry size. The pack size is offered in a 9.8-ounce package and a 6-ounce package.

“We continue to look for different varieties and other ways to expand within our own programs, and we’ve had a couple customers really knocking on our door for it,” she says. “We find that our customers can get a premium price for it, and if that’s what they’re looking for, then we are going to try to do it for them.”
