Bakersfield, Calif.-based Atlas Produce and Distribution, Inc. has introduced a 100% recyclable one-pound medjool date bag under their Fresh Energy brand.

Atlas Produce, also a grower of California table grapes, is using a grape bag design for the date bag that is familiar to the produce section, according to a news release.

“Table grapes are a delicate fruit whereas dates are more durable so quality stays the same as using the tub,” Robert Dobrzanski, founder and president, said in the release. “The bag has more callout space than other packaging which, we feel, is a tremendous marketing opportunity to grow the Medjool Date category.”

The bag is completely recyclable and uses 70% less plastic than a traditional plastic tub, he said in the release.

The Fresh Energy bag is a complement to the current offerings in the tub, which the release said is still available.
