Homegrown Organic Farms, Porterville, Calif., will offer a Jumbo Kiwi from Greece for the first time this season, said Scott Mabs, chief executive officer.

“They’re huge pieces of fruit,” he said. “Some of them are up to 4 inches long.”

Normal size for kiwifruit is 25s and 27s, he said. These will be 18s and 20s.
They’re green in color, similar to the hayward variety, and “they eat really well,” he said.

Testing has shown that they have “incredible” amounts of vitamin C and antioxidants compared to standard kiwifruit, Mabs said.

They will be available in bulk cartons and in 1- and 3-pound clamshell containers from mid-November until the end of the year.

Homegrown Organic Farms also has kicked off its organic Chilean blueberry program and will have a California citrus deal that will include lemons, navel oranges, clementines, cara cara oranges and grapefruit, he said.
