The Netherlands-based PerfoTec has a new system that allows shippers to make their own modified atmosphere liner bags to prolong shelf life.

The Dynamic Liner System (DLS) can produce the material with the most suitable permeability for the produce being packed, saving up to 25% on purchasing the bags, according to a news release.

Producing the liners on demand eliminates pre-order time and wasted bag stocks if they become too old or are inadequate, according to the release.

The DLS uses PerfoTec’s precision online laser perforation system, with a camera system that inspects each hole to ensure accuracy of the oxygen transmission rate of the liners. The DLS can use multiple raw materials for the film to make the bags, according to the release.

“The additional shelf life extension achieved using the PerfoTec Film, combined with the PerfoTec laser perforation system on the DLS, can reach up to double the normal shelf life beyond what is achieved with standard MAP liner bags,” according to the release.

PerfoTec also makes the Fast Respiration Meter, which measures the respiration rate of fresh produce to determine the optimal oxygen transmission rate for liners.

The company has an office in West Hartford, Conn.
