Meet Amy Sowder, new retail editor of The Packer/PMG

The Packer, a Farm Journal Media publication, is pleased to announce that Amy Sowder is now The Packer/PMG retail editor.

Sowder started her new role in October; she had been The Packer’s Northeast editor since joining the publication in November 2018.

“We are excited to promote Amy to this new role,” said Matt Morgan, executive vice president of produce for Farm Journal. “Over the past three years at The Packer Amy has shown that she is passionate about the fresh produce industry and is a very creative storyteller. We look forward to seeing Amy thrive in her new role as she focuses on connecting and educating with produce retailers.”

Tom Karst, editor-in-chief of The Packer, said Sowder’s coverage of the industry has been a strength of the publication, and her new role will her showcase her skills even more. Karst cited Sowder’s insightful coverage of produce personalities, businesses and industry trends since she joined The Packer. Sowder created the highly-read “Seen on Social” feature for The Packer, spotlighting produce and ag companies excelling in social media messaging.

Before coming to The Packer, Sowder had more than a decade of journalism experience, including staff positions at The News-Press in Florida, Chowhound.com and Smitten Kitchen in New York.

As a freelance journalist, Sowder has been published in USAtoday.com, Women’s Health, Bon Appétit, Upworthy, Brooklyn Magazine and many other publications. She has a degree in magazine journalism from the University of Florida.
