FPAA events approaching

The FPAA Spring Policy Summit will include presentations on possible U.S. infrastructure changes, inspections at the U.S.-Mexico border, and food safety standards across Canada, Mexico and the U.S.

<p>The sales division of The Giumarra Co. in Rio Rico, Ariz., hosted students from Rio Rico High School Oct. 26. Students toured two of Giumarra’s&nbsp;warehouses and learned about the produce business from members of Giumarra’s sales staff, says Job Villanueva, organic sales manager. At&nbsp;the end of the tour, each student was given a Nature’s Partner seedless watermelon.</p>
FPAA focuses on highway fixes, education

The Nogales, Ariz.-based Fresh Produce Association of the Americas has a number of local issues on its plate as the fall/winter west Mexico produce season gets underway.

Calavo Growers Inc., Nogales, Ariz., is shipping roma tomatoes from Culiacan, Mexico, says Brian Bernauer, director of operations and sales. The company plans to double its tomato volume in Jalisco, Mexico, starting in May.
