The Netherlands-based company has entered a strategic agreement to license Pairwise’s precision plant breeding tools, with the goal of accelerating the development of improved vegetable varieties that meet the evolving needs of growers, retailers and consumers.
“We rely on the support of farm bill funding and programs to ensure continued U.S. leadership as the provider of the best seed to the world,” said Katy Rainey, Purdue associate professor, at the Senate Ag hearing.
The Illinois-based seed company is expanding its global footprint to include Feltrin Sementes, a Brazilian vegetable seed company serving small growers and gardens in over 40 countries worldwide.
Vertical farming, the bastion of tech start-ups, has attracted the attention of global company Bayer AG, with plans to develop vegetable varieties suited to that indoor farming model.
