As the volume of fresh produce transported between North America and South America increases, Miramar, Fla.-based Sealand, an integrated cold chain logistics and transportation services provider and part of the Maersk Co., is working to “streamline and effectively deliver an unbreakable end-to-end avocado cold chain journey,” Silvia Cordova, Sealand, Peru commercial manager, said in a news release.

“With local personnel in Peru and the U.S., Sealand understands the necessity for continued infrastructure investment in areas such as refrigerated transloading and inland depots,” Cordova said.

The company has six dedicated depots in customer packaging centers.

“Advancements in technology, such as IoT (Internet of Things) real-time cold chain visibility solutions, will aid in delivering greater transparency, efficiency and cold chain predictability,” Cordova said.

“This will help ensure fresh avocados bound for the U.S. East Coast, at the Port of Philadelphia, and the West Coast at Port Hueneme in California, achieve optimal market value, product quality and shelf life to support good health and reduce food waste,” Cordova said in the release.
