Del Rey Avocado hires Brent Portell as operations manager

Del Rey Avocado, Fallbrook, Calif., has hired Brent Portell as operations manager as the company opens a new facility in Vista, Calif.

Del Rey Avocado, Fallbrook, Calif., has hired Brent Portell as operations manager as the company opens a new facility in Vista, Calif.

Portell has been at Green Thumb Produce Inc., Banning, Calif., for 11 years, starting as lab director, with a focus on food safety. Most recently, he was general manager of the wholesaler.

Portell went through training at Del Rey Avocado’s headquarters in Fallbrook, as well as at the company’s Vineland, N.J., facility. His background includes production, sales, business development, procurement and food safety, according to the release.

“He is a dynamic leader focused on team building, personal responsibility and creating a positive work environment for our employees,” Bob Lucy, president of Del Rey Avocado, said in the release. “He is the type of person that is not afraid to get his hands dirty and lend a hand when needed in order to meet our customers’ expectations.”
