California avocados coming to Chef’d

LEAWOOD, Kan. — Four recipes featuring California avocados will soon be added to the online menu of meal kit company Chef’d.

The recipes, which will appear on the Chef’d site in June, are highlighted through a partnership with the Irvine-based California Avocado Commission.

Featuring the fruit with Chef’d is part of the larger Iconic California Recipes campaign that the commission has built for this season.

The recipes are:

  • California Fish Tacos and Grilled Avocado and Pico de Gallo;
  • California Roll with Spicy Garlic Edamame;
  • Easy California Eggs Benedict with Citrus Salad; and
  • California Avocado Pizza with Watercress Salad.

“When you think about going into a restaurant and looking at the menu and you see California Eggs Benedict or California Club or California Chef’s Salad, the common denominator in each of those dishes is California avocados,” said vice president of marketing Jan DeLyser.

Another element promoting the fruit this summer will be The Cado, a pop-up exhibit/museum designed to celebrate California avocados while prompting photos destined for Instagram. The Cado will be coming to San Diego in June.

DeLyser described the plans for the 2018 campaign during a visit to Kansas City, home of The Packer.

Nutritionist Mitzi Dulan, who worked for years with pro teams the Royals and the Chiefs, hosted a gathering April 5 during which chef Dave Woolley prepared eight avocado-centric dishes — California Avocado Lumpia, California “Roll,” Avocado Watermelon Caprese Salad, California Avocado Petaluma Turkey Sliders, California Avocado “Bisque,” Guacasabi and Wonton Chips, California Avocado Falafel, and California Avocado Chocolate Pudding Shots.
