Australian officials have asked the USDA to approve U.S. imports of Australian apricots, nectarines, peaches, European plums, and Japanese plums.

The new U.S.-Japan trade agreement will deliver a tariff reduction and higher safeguard levels for U.S. orange shipments, and that should translate to a moderate increase in U.S. orange exports to Japan in 2020.

The Fresno, Calif.-based California Fresh Fruit Association has hired Caroline Stringer as its director of trade. Stringer’s first day will be Jan. 6, according to a news release.

Starr Ranch Growers, Wenatchee, Wash., is getting some star power for Juici and Koru apples, which are being served backstage at a production starring Lady Gaga.

The volume of sales for the U.S. 2018-19 mushroom crop is pegged at 846 million pounds, down 3% from last season in comparable states, according to a December report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
